White Ribbon Campaign

by sula36 @ 2008-04-03 - 21:18:11

Look what I found

A campaign by Men to end violence by men against women.
Must admit I have never seen anyone wearing a white ribbon, but it seems like something well worth promoting

What is the White Ribbon Campaign (WRC)?

The WRC is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men's violence against women. It relies on volunteer support and financial contributions from individuals and organizations.
How did the WRC get started?

In 1991, a handful of men in Canada decided they had a responsibility to urge men to speak out against violence against women. They decided that wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men's opposition to men's violence against women. After only six weeks preparation, as many as one hundred thousand men across Canada wore a white ribbon. Many others were drawn into discussion and debate on the issue of men's violence. There are now White Ribbon Campaigns operating in many countries around the world.

The UK Branch of WRC was started in 2004.
What does it mean to wear a white ribbon?

Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.

Each year, we urge men and boys to wear a ribbon for one or two weeks, starting on November 25, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women

on average a woman will be assaulted 30 times before she reports it to police...we have a zero tolerance now if we go to a call and the woman has been assaulted ..he gets nicked ..even if she has changed her mind and wont give a statement...we will even take the guy to court and call her as a hostile witness and we get the conviction....also i am sure you are aware that there are alot of men who are subjected to domestic violence ...often we will turn up and she will be claiming that he hit her...but you just know by looking at the guy and his injuries that it is he that has had the violence...that’s where the experience comes into it....more than once we have been called by the wife and i have nicked her...some of the blokes are huge big muscle men ...it is a sad state of affairs ..I am proud that I have never used violence against any of my loved ones

in fact in over 21 years as a copper I have never used my truncheon, never used my fists , never used my CS spray, just my voice and my size to dominate the situation....and i have been a front line copper all my service...7 years being with the TSG..(riot police)..
